Apabila kalian melihat orang yang senantiasa berbuat dosa, enggan melakukan perintah Allah bahkan senantiasa melanggar larangan-Nya tapi hartanya selalu melimpah, ketahuilah bukan berarti Allah Ta’ala memberikan kebaikan atau keutamaan kepada mereka. Justru sebaliknya, harta tersebut merupakan ISTIDRAJ dari Allah Ta’ala kepada mereka.

Allah Ta’ala berfirman:

نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ بَل لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ. أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِ مِن مَّالٍ وَبَنِينَ

“Apakah mereka mengira bahwa harta dan anak-anak yang Kami berikan kepada mereka itu (berarti bahwa), Kami bersegera memberikan kebaikan-kebaikan kepada mereka? Tidak, sebenarnya mereka tidak sadar.” (Al-Mu’minun: 55-56).

Istidraj secara bahasa diambil dari kata da-ra-ja (درج ) yang artinya naik dari satu tingkatan ke tingkatan selanjutnya.

Yang dimaksud dengan Istidraj dari Allah Ta’ala kepada hamba-Nya adalah “hukuman” yang diberikan sedikit demi sedikit dan tidak diberikan secara langsung. Allah biarkan orang ini dan tidak disegerakan adzabnya. Firman Allah Ta’ala:

سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ

“Nanti Kami akan menarik (menghukum) mereka dengan berangsur-angsur (ke arah kebinasaan) dari arah yang tidak mereka ketahui.” (Al-Qalam: 44). (Al-Mu’jam Al-Lughah Al-Arabiyah, kata: da-ra-ja).

Dari Ubah bin Amir radhiyallahu ‘anhu, Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bersabda:

إِذَا رَأَيْتَ اللَّهَ تَعَالى يُعْطِي الْعَبْدَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا مَا يُحِبُّ وَهُوَ مُقِيمٌ عَلَى مَعَاصِيهِ فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ اسْتِدْرَاجٌ

“Apabila engkau melihat Allah MEMBERIKAN KENIKMATAN DUNIA kepada seorang hamba, sementara dia MASIH BERGELIMANG DENGAN MAKSIAT, maka itu hakikatnya adalah istidraj dari Allah.”

Kemudian Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam membaca firman Allah Ta’ala:

فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْلِسُونَ

“Tatkala mereka MELUPAKAN peringatan yang telah diberikan kepada mereka, Kami pun MEMBUKAKAN PINTU-PINTU KESENANGAN UNTUK MEREKA; sehingga apabila mereka bergembira dengan apa yang telah diberikan kepada mereka, Kami siksa mereka dengan sekonyong-konyong, maka ketika itu mereka terdiam berputus asa.” (Al-An’am: 44)

[HR. Ahmad (no. 17349), Thabrani dalam Al-Kabir (no. 913), disahihkan Syaikh Al-Albani rahimahullah dalam Ash-Shahihah (no. 414)].

Syaikh bin Baaz rahimahullah berkata:

“Rizki (yang barakah) dari Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala tidak akan bisa didapatkan karena kemaksiatan kecuali atas dasar istidraj. Apabila anda melihat seseorang yang diberikan Allah rizki yang melimpah kepadanya, sedangkan dia tetap melakukan maksiat, maka ini adalah istidraj dari Allah kepadanya.” (Fatawa Mu’ashirah, hlm. 61)

Segala perbuatan maksiat (dosa) yang mereka lakukan, justru Allah balas dengan “nikmat” berupa harta yang melimpah, dan Allah jadikan mereka lupa untuk beristighfar dan bertaubat (karena mereka memang enggan untuk beristighfar dan bertaubat), sehingga mereka semakin dekat dengan adzab-Nya sedikit demi sedikit, yang selanjutnya Allah akan berikan semua hukuman pada saatnya.

Karena mereka telah MELUPAKAN peringatan Allah, maka Allah akan memberikan semua kenikmatan dunia sehingga mereka SEMAKIN LUPA dan semakin banyak berbuat dosa yang akhirnya akan di adzab dengan sekonyong-konyong. Itulah istidraj, wal ‘iyadzubillah.
